In Name of the Doctor, Clara split herself into countless echo versions, some of who we encountered on the show: Oswin Oswald, Clara Oswin Oswald and a few that we saw running after the Doctor in NotD. Out of everything she wears in those clips, only the Topshop Studded Leather Jacket has been properly IDed to my knowledge and she wears it as two different versions of Clara. One time, the jacket is paired with black jeans, a large belt and a red blouse with small, white dots. The other combined the jacket with a pair of black jeans as well and a blue denim-looking top that is knotted or tied in the front. Here is a full body shot of both outfits (or as full body as one of them gets):
The Topshop Studded Leather Jacket wasn’t on top of my list when I started cosplaying Clara, but because I now own most of what I went after, cosplaying her echo versions has a certain appeal, so I’ve been keeping an eye out for Topshop leather jackets for the past year. It’s not the easiest item to find, to be quite honest. I’ve seen maybe three of them on Vinted (which was the only place I looked), but I’m sure they will pop up on eBay and Depop as well. The first time I saw it, I was looking for the Topshop Mac and didn’t pay a lot of attention to it. The second time, the jacket cost a little more than I was willing to spend, so I decided to wait for the seller to drop the price, but then it was sold to someone else. A few weeks ago, I spotted another and decided to just go for it. I only paid £15 plus shipping and I consider this a great deal for a leather jacket, but from what I’ve seen, I think you can expect a price range from £15 to £50, depending on the seller and what state it is in.
As for the rarity scale, I’d say it’s semi-rare. It does pop up, but it doesn’t do so constantly, so you may have to wait for a little while for it to show up. Above all, it’s quite hard to spot among all the other, quite similar looking Topshop Studded Leather Jackets. I will add detailed photos to this post so you can get a closer look at the SA jacket, but there are very similar ones around that have studs on different parts of the collar (these can be found in large quantities on the internet). The gathered sleeves are also unique to the SA jacket. If you’re looking for the jacket, play close attention to the studded collar and the sleeves and you’ll be able to tell the SA from the ALTs.
The jacket runs small in the usual Topshop fashion. When I bought my UK10, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect because to my knowledge, only two other cosplayers own this one and I didn’t have a chance to ask them about the fit. I got lucky because the UK10 fits me perfectly (I’m a normal XS/S in jackets) and I think the UK10 of this one can be compared to the UK6 of the River Island Leather Jacket around the waist and bust. These two have a very similar fit (despite being two sizes apart), so if you already own the RI jacket, just buy this Topshop one two sizes up from that and you’ll be fine. Other than the typically strange Topshop sizing, the jacket fits quite lovely and looks flattering.
The exterior of the Topshop Studded leather jacket is made of 100% real leather, the inside of the body is 100% cotton and the inside of the sleeves are 100% polyester. All I can say is that the leather is really incredibly soft. It might be due to the wear the jacket already received from the previous owner, but when I thought the &Other Stories Leather Jacket was soft, I was mistaken because this one is a lot softer and also lighter, which makes it really nice to wear.
Due to it being rather cold at the moment, I haven’t had a chance to wear it out and about, but I will surely add it to my everyday wardrobe in spring because of the nice fit and the lovely feel of the soft leather. I’m certainly not regretting this purchase even though it’s a rather obscure Clara item, but it’s one I’m proud to own now simply for that reason. I’m very excited to put my echo!Clara cosplay together.
