This dress may not look like much when you see it on a hanger, but it’s actually one of my favourites from Clara’s entire wardrobe. It’s such a light, flattering dress that just looks amazing when it’s worn. Despite the long sleeves, the dress isn’t necessarily warm because the fabric is quite light, so I don’t blame Clara for wearing a cardigan on top for half the episode.
This dress was one of my earlier items before I really learned how to use eBay and Vinted to search for Clara items, so I paid quite a lot for it and yes, if it’s known to be a cosplay item, the price on this one can go quite high. I’ve seen them around for up to £150. However, with a little patience, you can probably find it cheaper on eBay or Vinted, but it might take some time to pop up.
More common than the burgundy version is the grey alt and I’ve seen a lot of dyed versions around by now that look absolutely screen accurate and are cheaper than the SA colour. If it wasn’t for the dyed label, I wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference. So if you can spot the grey alt somewhere, go for it. With a bit of red dye, it will look SA in no time. I’ve dyed a couple of clothing items with Simplicol fabric dye (Dylon is more common in the UK) and so far, my results have been quite good. The people I know who have dyed this specific item used Dylon which can be found on eBay, but any fabric dye will probably do.
The fabric is 88% polyester and 12% rayon and since it’s quite thin, it can be a bit fragile and I’ve seen some being sold that had small holes, so I can only assume that it’s easily damaged which is another reason to be patient with this dress and not spend too much money on it if you plan to wear it on a regular basis. Mixed fibres can be a bit tricky to dye, but since many people have successfully done it, you shouldn’t have a problem doing the same.
The dress runs true to size and that’s all I can say about that because this is really a simple item that’s just absolutely beautiful. I love to wear it even outside of cosplay because it’s perfect for spring or autumn. If only all Clara items were as easy to review as this gorgeous dress. I really love this one because it keeps on surprising me. Every time I walk past it, I don’t take much notice because it looks quite simple on the hanger, but as soon as I put it on, I fall in love with it all over again because I remember just how gorgeous it looks on and how flattering it is. It certainly is one of those items every Clara cosplayer should own.
