For my first jewellery related post on this blog, let’s have a look at Clara Oswald’s Urban Outfitters Aztec Eagle necklace because this is an item which is worn with several outfits and one that many Clara cosplayers are after right from the beginning when they start their collection. It’s easily recognized and therefore perfect to complete the outfits. First of all, it was mainly featured in BoSJ (both outfits), RoA and The Crimson Horror, but it can also be seen on Clara’s alternative outfit from The Snowmen, the one that features the UO playsuit.
The SA version from Urban Outfitters is sadly quite rare and hard to find and I’m not sure how many cosplayers actually own the SA, but since there are many very good alts available on the internet, it doesn’t really matter. My necklace isn’t the SA one either because my priority was her clothes, followed by her shoes – jewellery is always the last piece of an outfit I go looking for unless something comes my way.
One famous alt is the exact same necklace in silver with a turquoise stone at the centre and that is the version I bought on eBay when I started my collection. I went to the hardware store and bought a can of antique gold spray which I used to turn my silver necklace gold and I used black nail polish for the stone. The necklace itself cost me £1 from a Chinese seller. If you look for “eagle necklace” or “Aztec necklace” on eBay, Vinted, Etsy, Wish and Depop, I’m sure that something suitable will pop up. Even if it’s only the silver version, you can easily make it more SA looking with some spray paint and nail polish in a matter of minutes.
As I’ve said before, it’s quite a recognizable Clara item, but I also quite like the look of it and have worn it often in daily life with my regular clothes and so far, I haven’t managed to damage the necklace even though it came pretty cheap. If you’re despairing on the SA item, try looking for the silver alt instead – it works just as well and even the cheap ones can have a good, long life.
