The SA Belstaff Roadmaster Jacket is insanely expensive (£300 upwards) and I know of only one cosplayer who owns it. Don’t get me wrong, if you search long and hard enough, you can probably get a good deal on it. I’ve spotted a couple of jackets around the £100 mark, so if you really want to go SA on that one, there will be opportunities for you. I imagine the jacket is excellent quality and will last for a very long time, not to mention the iconic biker look of it, but since I don’t even own a motorcycle at the moment, I decided not to invest in the expensive SA jacket right now. Besides, a jacket for that price that was only featured in one episode isn’t really in my budget at the moment. Luckily for us cosplayers, there are alt options available.
I found my jacket on eBay and it’s made by Jane Norman. It only cost me £15 and I think it’s very close to the original and a wonderful alt for everyone who doesn’t have £300 to spend on a jacket. It’s water-resistant and also comes with check lining like the SA jacket. I think it may have been a direct attempt at a Belstaff knock-off. I’m also using this jacket as an alt for the Barbour jacket Clara wears in Bells of Saint John and Hide.
If your budget allows a little more, Barbour also made a couple of jackets that look like the Belstaff one. However, they’re also likely to cost over £100 second-hand. If you just want a cheap look-alike to go with your Day of the Doctor outfit, the Jane Norman jacket is probably the best option for you. It is waxed, has the pockets in the rights spots and a belt around the waist. In my photos, the jacket looks a little bluer than it actually is due to the studio lighting. It’s a dark navy otherwise.
