The Shalex Eye Blouse is the rarest of all Clara items. It literally does not exist. Well, it does. We’ve seen it on Jenna, but I don’t know a single cosplayer who owns the SA orange blouse and I’ve never seen it being sold online. A while back, I saw a post somewhere made by a cosplayer who isn’t actually active in the community, asking what people would pay for her orange eye blouse and that is the only time I have actually heard of someone who owns it.
There is a wine red version of this exact shirt around, but that is almost as rare and I know only three cosplayers who own it. Then there is a wine red dress with the same pattern available, but guess what – it’s as rare as the shirt version. I don’t want to burst your cosplay dream bubble, but the chances of finding this one are very, very slim. During my two years of collecting Clara items, I’ve seen two wine red alts sell and no more.
Another option to come by an alt is a shirt with a different cut and black collar that is made out of the same orange eye fabric that could possibly be altered. The Clara cosplayer Mionemrys helped some people get it from China, but it’s not really available on the European and American market.
I didn’t really like any of the options, so I set out to create my own eye pattern. It took me many hours of pathwork, but I managed to get quite close to the original eye look and took colour samples from the promo photo. With that, I ordered a test print of a fabric I had chosen from Contrado and I loved the result, so I ordered all the fabric needed to make a shirt. Sadly, the eyes came out a bit bigger on the final fabric, but I still love how it turned out. I also bought a fitting sewing pattern online and handed both over to my trusted tailor. I love sewing myself, but the printing the fabric cost me over £100, so I didn’t want to take any chances and gave it to a professional instead.
She did an amazing job over the course of the following months and I just love how the blouse turned out in the end. The fabric I chose is called duchess satin and it’s so soft that I couldn’t stop caressing it whenever I went to a fitting. It has the shiny quality of the original blouse. The only difference is that the print is only visible from one side and the other is white, so I can’t roll up my sleeves like Clara does. And the best thing was that she demanded only £35 for her work. I am extremely happy with my very own, very special eye blouse replica.
If you’re interested in making your own replica, I am willing to sell my recreated eye pattern for a Ko-Fi. Drop me a message or contact me on Tumblr if you’re interested. The size and number of the eyes can be adjusted when you order from Contrado (and probably Spoonflower, too, but I have never ordered from there before). I’ll also be happy to assist with finding a good sewing pattern.
