If you’ve already been looking into Clara Cosplay items, you will probably have tried to find this coat because even though it’s only been featured in two scenes, it’s a very sought-after item. I wonder why people are always so crazy about the items that are rare? Are they rare because they are pretty and everyone wants them? Or do people find them especially pretty because they are rare?

I had put it on my cosplay wish list and I had looked for it, but I didn’t think I would actually own it one day. This is really one of Clara’s rarest items and if it does pop up, most of the times it is sold by another cosplayer for more than I’m willing to spend on a blazer/coat/we’ll establish that later. I’ve seen listing with horrendous prices, but only recently one sold for around £100. I think during my time of collecting Clara items I’ve seen no more than three being sold on the various platforms.

I managed to trade my size M Hide dress for this item and that is the only reason I own the ASOS coat now. I wouldn’t have been able to afford any of the others at the times they showed up. I know that some cosplayers got lucky and found them on eBay for less, but that’s a bit like winning the cosplay lottery (which isn’t impossible but takes a lot of search work).

But let’s talk about the coat itself. I hate calling it a coat because it’s really, really not. The fabric is 100% acrylic and really light and I would not recommend wearing outside in winter cause you will most definitely be cold. Here is the fabric when it’s held against the light:

It’s more of a blazer than a coat

That’s not what I’d call a coat. So if you’re searching eBay for this, try other forms of clothing item cause some people might not consider this a coat either.

Apart from not being a coat, this item is near damn perfect. It’s such a nice addition to so many different outfits even outside of cosplay. However, the pockets could have been a little bigger (I’m obviously spoiled by other Clara items).

The ASOS coat/blazer/whatever runs quite oversized, so if you manage to find it and it’s a size or two smaller than what you usually wear, it will probably still fit you fine. It looks small on the dress form, but only because I had to pin it down to keep it from covering the Topshop jumper.

If you watch the scene in Into The Dalek a little more closely, you will notice that the costume department altered Clara’s coat to be a little more form-fitting. If you didn’t notice, here’s the proof in photos:

They just pinned it together in the back with what’s probably only a few stitches and I already considered making the same changes on mine because it’s really quite oversized for a size S.

If you’re one of the cosplayers who own it, consider yourself lucky because this really is one of the most sought-after rare items in Clara’s wardrobe and a wonderful spring/autumn jacket that goes very well with black jeans. There is also an alt available in bomber jacket form that uses the exact same fabric.
