Here comes an item that you don’t normally see very often on Clara cosplayers and there are two good reasons for that: a) The Kooples is an expensive brand and b) it was only seen for a couple of seconds. Which is why I debated with myself for a very long time before actually buying it, but the cosplayer in me obviously won.
When I received my dress, it was love at first sight. I own a lot of gorgeous dresses besides my cosplay wardrobe and this dress still managed to blow my mind somehow. It might seem flimsy and short on the dress form, but it isn’t once you wear it. The length is very decent and the lace in the cleavage area isn’t as see-through as you would expect. All those lace details on the dress (see pictures below) are simply stunning and will definitely impress everyone who sees you wearing it.
Something that surprised me a little is the material which it is made from because it feels kind of rough on your skin at first, but you forget all about it in a matter of minutes. It is just in the initial moment of wearing it when it when it feels a little odd. Sadly, the previous owner cut out the label and I don’t know what material it is made from.
Something I already recommended for the Listen dress and I will repeat that recommendation again here: buy a flesh-coloured stick-on bra. That is really the best option for this dress because it won’t be seen. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, a strapless bra will do in this case, but I found that you could see mine just a little through the lace whereas the stick-on bra vanished completely.
I personally found the sizing to be a little bit odd, but that is probably due to my hourglass-shape (which came in handy with other items). I bought my dress in a size M following the recommendation of the seller who said that it runs a little small. It fits me (a normal size XS-S) perfectly around the hips, but it’s loose around the waist. The dress is stretchy, so I probably would have been fine with a size S, but I’m not sure how comfortable I would have been. As far as I can tell, you can buy your regular size if you have an A-line body shape. If you’re more of a curvy hourglass shape, you might want to consider sizing up like I did. Some sellers will state the measurements of the dress on the platform.
As I’ve mentioned before, The Kooples is an expensive brand. I think you’re most likely to find this dress on Vide Dressing or Vestiaire Collective (which is where I bought mine) and I’ve seen it go from £70 to £150. I was lucky and found a seller who was willing to negotiate, so if you see one in your size and don’t like the price, there is always the option the seller might be willing to go down a little. I have also seen some of them on Depop and they will probably show up on eBay as well every once in a while.
When you buy the dress, look closely at the details. The Kooples made several dresses that look quite similar, so if you aim for the SA dress, make sure it’s the one.
Even if Clara only wore it for a few seconds, you will most definitely get yourself one hell of an evening dress with this cosplay item. It’s really one of a kind and looks gorgeous when it’s worn. When I ordered mine, I comforted myself with the fact that VC has a 14-days return policy and I could send it back because I didn’t actually want to spend so much money, but after trying it on, I was so madly in love that I knew that would never happen. It’s just another gorgeous Clara piece.
