Here comes the review of my very, very first cosplay item. To be honest, this is what started my collection in more than one way. I had admired Clara’s style from the very beginning, but when I saw the first promotional photos with this pinafore, the “I want” effect first kicked in. Of course, that was before I was aware that there were actual lists of Clara’s clothes, so I had no idea where to get them until someone sent me the link to the Miss Patina website. The pinafore was out of stock, BUT a couple of months later, the shop restocked the pinafore and I bought it without hesitation. You cannot imagine the smile on my face when I received it and wore it for the very first time. That was one happy day in April/May 2016 when my collection was born.
The pinafore runs true to size to maybe a tiny, tiny bit loose around the waist (as can be seen on Clara), but I’m assuming that’s what it’s supposed to look like, so I would suggest sticking to your normal size when buying this.
Miss Patina has already restocked on the Pinafore three times after it was sold out. But currently (July 2018), all sizes are available on the official Miss Patina website. The original retail price of this one is £65.80. Since this is their third restock, I’m assuming they will keep bringing it back as long as people buy them, but usually, there are a couple of months in between during which they stay sold out.
If you’re too late and can’t secure one for yourself, you have several options. Either you could wait until it is restocked again (the chances aren’t that bad because it has already been restocked three times and a smaller clothing line like Miss Patina will want their bestsellers back to make money). The original pinafore is also available on a Chinese website for the same price and mionemrys (her Instagram username) has helped a lot of cosplayers in getting one. The third option is to wait until a cosplayer decides to sell it on Depop or eBay (I haven’t seen it on Vinted so far), but you might have to wait a while for one to pop up because they’re not exactly rare but probably one of the last items someone would give away.
For the price range, I’d suggest staying close to the original retail price. I think the cheapest I’ve seen it for so far is £50 and you shouldn’t expect to pay less even though prices can go up a bit after the pinafore has been out of stock for a bit, but there is always the option to get it for the retail price in China (and yes, it is the legitimate item, not a knock-off). Or to wait for Miss Patina to restock.
The pinafore itself is such a lovely piece of clothing and if I wasn’t so afraid to damage it, I would probably wear it all the time because of how lovely it is. It is buttoned up with one invisible and six visible buttons and can be combined not only with the Topshop jumper but with a variety of other lovely items. For example, the Vaudeville & Burlesque Blouse. The fabric (100% polyester) they used is really soft and light and I promise that once you have it, you won’t want to take it off again. To this day, even though I now own the majority of Clara’s clothes, this outfit remains one of my favourites and it’s particularly special to me because it was the first one.
Also, did I mention that it just looks gorgeous and for me, it was love at first sight?
