Finally, I get to review another new item instead of upload my previous reviews on the new blog because this week, I received my River Island Brogue Ankle Boots at last. As you may have determined from my posts, I mainly collect Clara’s clothing items and leave the shoes and accessories for later, so they’re often the last item I get to complete an outfit for various reasons: I don’t normally wear heels in everyday life, so my Clara shoes spend 99% of their time stored away under my bed and they’re not often visible in my cosplay photos either. However, there are a couple of pairs that I’ve always really loved to look at and the River Island boots are among those. I’m thrilled to finally call them mine!
It’s been over two years since I started collecting Clara’s items, so the River Island Brogue Ankle Boots aren’t exactly something that shows up on a daily basis. They are moderately rare because I’ve seen a couple of them around, but so far, they just never were my size, the person only wanted to trade or they cost a little more than I was willing to spend on something that I would only wear for cosplay purposes. You’ll probably have to do some searching before you come across a pair in your size, but they are findable because several cosplayers I know have already owned them for quite some time. I would stick to the usual places to look for them: eBay, Vinted and Depop. Since River Island is not a very expensive brand, they’re not very likely to show up on Vestiaire Collective or similar sites.
As for the price, it once again depends on whether they’re being sold by another cosplayer. To be honest, I’ve rarely seen them being sold by a cosplayer, but when they were, the person wanted more than £30 for them – which, sadly, is more than I’m able to spend on shoes. I can’t give you an original retail price and it will depend on the state the second-hand shoes are in, but I’m sure you’ll be able to get them for as low as £10 if you get lucky. My pair was roughly £15 with postage within Germany, but they do have a few scratches on them already. Apart from that, mine actually look quite new, so I consider myself very lucky. But the scratches are the reason I would advise you to look a little more closely at the item and not spend too much when you see them. Because mine haven’t been worn a lot, I can only conclude that the material scratches easily and might not be that durable.
I’ve already mentioned that I’m not really the type to wear heels (because four years working in retail while standing up have ruined my feet), but I was positively surprised that for the height (9cm), they are really quite comfortable to wear. I haven’t had the chance to try them out for a longer period of time, but I’ve worn them around the home for ten minutes and my feet felt fine, so that makes them at least more comfortable than the Topshop All Mine Boots. When it comes to looks, I just adore them. I love a good pair of brogue shoes and these will definitely be worn once autumn comes. They’re a classic Clara look kind of shoes that go very well with the rest of the outfit.
