During her time on the show, Clara Oswald carries three four different bags and the Urban Outfitters Deena & Ozzy Tan Satchel is one of them. Judging by looks, it was always my favourite of Clara’s satchels even though it only appears in Into The Dalek and I’ve wanted it ever since I started collecting her items. It took me 2 1/2 years, but I can finally call this satchel my own.
The satchel isn’t quite so easy to find. I’ve seen a few on Vinted, but they were either quite pricey (£25) or the seller never responded to me. If it’s sold by another cosplayer, the price can be even higher and it was more than I was willing to spend on a small satchel that I would hardly use in everyday life. Once again, I was lucky that another cosplayer found a cheap one for me through an app I couldn’t even access in Germany.
On top of being expensive, the satchel is also quite rare (as are Clara’s other bags) and I’ve only seen a handful of them during my time as a Clara cosplayer. I don’t think I ever saw one on Depop, but I saw two on Vinted and maybe you’ll get lucky on eBay or the DW Cosplay Sales Community, but it’s probably going to take some time, especially if you’re not willing to spend a lot of money.
The satchel is quite small and doesn’t actually fit a lot of things, so I have no daily use for it apart from using it for a quick trip to the supermarket or the doctor’s office. It fits phone, wallet, keys and a tissue, but that exhausts the capacity of the satchel. The measurements are roughly 26cm wide, 20cm high and 7cm deep. The strap can be detached if you need to transport or ship it. It’s made from 100% polyurethane.
Apart from the main compartment, it has a small zip pouch like most bags and a small pouch in the front and back, but they’re too small to actually fit anything apart from maybe a tissue or notes. If you’re like me and carry around enough to spontaneously go abroad, this satchel is not for you unless you only plan to use it for cosplay purposes.
Even though it has little practical use, I still love it and use it whenever I can because it’s such a pretty thing. The colour goes very well with a lot of my clothes and sometimes, I just don’t feel like carrying my backpack around with me. If you’re planning on wearing the Into The Dalek outfit for a con, the bag will be an ideal addition.
