I feel like crying every time I watch this scene because they took such an expensive and beautiful jumper just to ruin it. But hey, let’s focus on the good things, shall we?
This jumper only got a few minutes of screen time and still, you can see it on the wish list on many Clara cosplayers. Why? Because it’s a lovely jumper and it’s expensive and it’s rare – those qualities attract cosplayers. I wasn’t initially after this item, but a few months into cosplaying, I sort of fell in love with it and absolutely had to have it.
Like all the other Claudie Pierlot items, this jumper is very, very, very rare. In fact, it is so rare that I’ve only ever seen two on Vinted FR, eBay, Depop, Videdressing and Vestiaire Collective. Needless to say, one of those is the one that I bought. If you’re looking for it, I would say that Vinted FR is the place to go. It might take you months, but one day, someone will decide that they don’t want this jumper anymore and sell it (French people sell a lot of second-hand clothes). Polyvore and Lyst list the jumper with an original retail price of £70 – £80, so you can calculate what you can expect to pay for a second-hand version that isn’t sold by a cosplayer. Let’s not talk about the price a cosplayer might charge.
Fun fact, since I first wrote about this jumper, it hasn’t popped up again. At least not that I’ve seen it, but I know of one cosplayer who bought it since then. So even three years after the initial air date, the jumper is still a rare item to be found online.
The jumper fits true to size, but as you can see on Clara, it’s supposed to look oversized. If that is not your thing or you’re a very small Clara, this jumper might not suit you so very well. For this jumper, Claudie Pierlot uses the French sizes, so a 1 is the smallest size you can get (it equal a size S). It’s the size I own and it looks on me like it does on Jenna – it fits, but there’s still a lot of room. As I’ve mentioned in my post about the Claudie Pierlot skirt, that brand doesn’t really produce clothes in a big range of sizes (with the skirt only being available in three different sizes). I’m fairly certain the same holds true for this jumper and they only ever made sizes 1 – 3 (S – L).
I really like this jumper for my everyday wardrobe because it’s neither too warm nor too light and has a very comfortable, loose fit. The frill and green neck give it a nice touch and make it recognizable. CP made another, similar jumper with frill, but it lacks the green neck bit – I’ve seen that one around eBay a couple of times. If you’re desperate to own this cosplay but can’t find the SA jumper, consider buying the other frill jumper without the green neck and just wear a green t-shirt underneath. Another cosplay did a similar thing for a quick photo and she fooled me for a second.
The jumper is supposed to be navy, but to my eyes, it looks more like a faded black than navy. It’s only under a certain light that you could say it’s vaguely navy. That’s something you should definitely bear in mind when you’re hunting through eBay for it. The jumper is made from 90% cotton and 10% viscose.
If you’re one of the lucky few that find the jumper, don’t hesitate to buy it. I personally think it’s a lovely, soft, very Clara-esque piece of clothing that I love to wear. And even if you decide that you don’t actually like it, there are many Clara cosplayers out there who will gladly buy it from you if you decide to sell it again.
