Clara Oswald’s custom made waitress dress combined with the Converse Hidden Wedge Sneakers in Hell Bent

Item: Custom Made Waitress Dress
Appearance: Hell Bent
Combined With: Converse Hidden Wedge High-Top Sneakers, Melissa Joy Manning Mini Hug Hoop Earrings.

This is going to be my last post for the time being until I receive a new cosplay item in the mail or finish my current WiP, but with this one, I have officially reviewed everything that I own so far (unless I forgot something).

As soon as I started cosplaying Clara, I knew I had to have her gorgeous waitress dress. But since it had been a while since my last sewing project and I hadn’t actually done any modern clothes, I decided to hand it over to my trusted tailor instead of butchering the fabric myself.

For the sewing pattern, I used Simplicity 3847

I used Simplicity pattern Nr. 3847 and found the fabric online at my favourite crafts supply shop. With that, I went to my tailor and she immediately set out to make it. Overall, it took her about six months to make it because I wasn’t always available for a fitting and she has other customers apart from me, but I am extremely pleased with the result. Sadly, she didn’t finish it in time for FedCon or otherwise I would have worn it to meet Jenna and Matt, but I’m sure there will be other opportunities for me to wear this gorgeous beauty.

I know that many cosplayers have made their own waitress dress already, but if you haven’t, I can really recommend the sewing pattern and I’m sure that you will find suitable fabric on basically every website that sells fabric online. I think I paid around £30 for the fabric and buttons and yarn and my tailor charged me £80 for the sewing. My tailor is a friend of the family, so I don’t pay as much as I would have elsewhere, so you should add some more pounds to your calculations if you’re planning on having it made.

I’ve seen a few cosplayers with their custom-made reproductions and they’re all really, really gorgeous and I would appreciate a comment under this post if you used a different pattern. I’ve also seen some reproductions for sale online on various cosplay websites, but they all come from China and I’m not sure about the quality and sizing of those. I think they will vary a lot depending on the price and the fabric will likely not be as high-quality as if you picked it out yourself, but if you’re only planning on wearing it for one convention, I’m sure they’ll also do just fine because they do look accurate.

Overall, this is a cosplay I love very, very much even though I haven’t yet had the chance to wear it at a convention. The colour of the dress is stunning and every cosplayer I’ve seen in this dress looked so lovely! On top of that, every Whovian will know exactly who you are.
