After two and a half years, I can finally call the All Saints Axelle Jacket mine and what a history that jacket and I have! First of all, this wasn’t my first attempt at buying it and at some point, I started to push it back on my ISO because I was sure I was never going to own it. At first, I bought it on eBay for an incredibly good price, but a day after I had transferred the money, the seller deleted his eBay account. Luckily for me, the bank account also no longer existed, so the money was transferred back to me. My second attempt was quickly followed by my third attempt two weeks ago. I wasn’t sure what size I was going to need and I had bought the jacket in a UK8 for £120. A few hours later, I saw a UK10 for £30. I bought it, too. However, that seller quickly cancelled the transaction because she had sold on it another platform already. I’m really quite glad now because the UK8 fits and I don’t have to worry about finding someone to buy the second jacket off me, but let’s get to the actual jacket now, shall we?

The All Saints Axelle Denim Jacket was worn by Clara Oswald in Rings of Akhaten, Nightmare in Silver and the Doctor Who at the Proms clip, so it completes quite a number of outfits for me and probably many other cosplayers. I had a good alt, so I wasn’t in a rush to buy it and I think that is important when searching for this jacket because prices vary a lot here. Among cosplayers and on Depop, prices usually range from £140 to £300 (I think that was the most expensive I’ve ever seen), but I’ve also seen cosplayers sell them for £100. I haven’t actually seen a lot that were sold by cosplay muggles apart from the Vinted one for £30, but I’ve heard from fellow cosplayers that they have seen them sell for £20. You can definitely get a good deal if you’re patient and willing to browse the various websites on a daily basis, but since I don’t really have the time for thorough searching at the moment, I bit the bullet and bought the £120 one from Vestiaire Collective. All Saints is an expensive brand, which is something you should definitely bear in mind while searching for this particular item.

As for the sizing, I really wasn’t sure what to get. I’ve heard different people say different things about the sizing of the All Saints Axelle jacket, so I was quite torn. Some had told me it fit true to size, others said it was small, so I just had to take a small risk and hope for the best. In normal everyday jackets, I’m a UK6 or UK8, but I had already learned that it doesn’t always apply to Clara items. Luckily for me, the UK8 fits me like a dream. I often struggle with the shoulders in smaller jackets even though I don’t think my shoulders are particularly broad, but the UK8 fits me perfectly in every area. However, if you have broad shoulders or a larger cup size, sizing up would probably be the better option for you. I can wear the Urban Outfitters Dress and Sessun Jumper underneath the jacket, but there’s no space for a thick winter jumper. I would agree with everyone who says the jacket fits true to size, but if you’re in between sizes or have shoulder and chest issues with other jackets, I would suggest going for the bigger size. Also, I think the UK10 would have been fine on me, so if you can only find the next size up, it would probably do, especially if you can find it cheap. Since I spent quite a bit of money on mine, I wanted it to be the perfect fit. I do think that, even if you can’t find your size immediately, you’ll likely find someone to trade with.

Now to the jacket itself: A reason why I wasn’t so keen on the All Saints Axelle Jacket at first was that I didn’t think I would ever wear it outside of cosplay. In pictures, it never really looked like it was my style and I was hesitant to spend a lot of money on something that would only be worn in cosplay photos, but as soon as the jacket arrived, I realised that I had been wrong. Even though I’m still not to the type to wear denim jackets, this one doesn’t actually look like denim. It is styled more like a leather jacket and from a distance, the fabric looks more like a matt/less shiny leather than denim. It has the same kind of elbow and shoulder patches as you would expect a leather jacket to have and the fabric appears to have been treated with some kind of water/dirt repellent. I just sprinkled a few water drops on my jacket to test it and I could wipe them off without a problem, so I’m assuming the jacket will withstand a light rain.

It is not particularly warm, so it won’t serve as a good protection from cold autumn weather, but for spring and late summer, I think this will go nicely with many outfits from my own wardrobe. The pockets aren’t especially large, but they’ll fit a tissue and maybe your keys. The zip closes easily and you can close off the jacket with a button at the collar. I was also surprised by how soft the jacket is because judging from what I’ve seen on screen and in still photos, I had expected it to be rather stiff. But once again, I was mistaken.

The All Saints Axelle Jacket is made from 87% cotton, 11% nylon, 2% lycra elastane and the lining is 100 polyester. According to the label, the jacket is dry clean only, a sign you’re probably already familiar with as a cosplayer.

Overall, the All Saints Axelle Jacket is one positive surprise for me. I really hadn’t expected to love it as much as I do because it looks and fits so much better than I had anticipated. With a little more patience, I could have probably struck a better deal, but since the jacket I received basically hasn’t been worn and looks brand new, I’m not really mad about the price I paid. You also see a lot of All Saints Axelle jackets around with destroyed labels (I think this is done to prevent people from returning it to the shop?) and I’m glad that mine is still intact. I know it doesn’t really matter because the label isn’t visible while wearing it, but it just adds to the “looks and feels new” kind of feeling. This is another gorgeous item in Clara’s collection that I can see myself wearing a lot in the future and if a jacket I wasn’t so very keen on can surprise me in such a positive way, I’m already looking forward to the day I can finally call the All Saints Elias Mac my own 😀
